This is a family owned, old school Deli. Sandwiches are great but they also have baked goods (pizza, calzons, etc.). The owners are friendly and accommodating.
Came here for lunch and had the pastrami sandwich with cheese. It was excellent. Lots of people in line to pre-order for their Christmas eve parties. A little busier than usual but got in and out in pretty fast. The girl with the Christmas ear bands was super friendly after their was an incident with a disgruntled customer. I felt bad that they had to deal Mr grinch but they kept going at it working the orders. Awesome team and great food! Will definitely come back for more.
Best Italian deli in the San Fernando Valley by far. Legit Italian owners who are friendly and helpful. The service and the food are 10/10 for sure. Located in a strip mall, the parking is plentiful. The deli also has a small grocery store with various Italian items. They also have Italian desserts and breads. I will be back regular to San Carlos Deli.
I've been coming here since the early 90's when I worked down the street. I've recently relocated back to the area & nothing's changed except the prices. The food, the service, the complimentary pizza bread just a beautiful local family vibe. I love it. Do yourself a favor & go there for an authentic Italian deli. Best in the SFV hands down.
Love this place. So friendly with a hint of atteggiamento Italino. Definite family vibe .
Oh my gosh! Molto bene! Il cibo è fantastico! (The food is fantastic). I tried the meatball sandwich and it was very good and now I want to try all of their sandwiches. They have cool Italian items on the self and even Italian soda to boot. Grab a table as quick as you can they get busy! The service is excellent they are very nice people. Grazie mille!
Best deli ever no one dose it better than these guys. I was given the best service in the area. The place is always packed and friendly people at the counter the lady was super nice and the owner is a legend. The ambiance is amazing felt like a real deli.
Love, love, love the San Carlo. Walk in and you're transported back in time to an Italian grocery that could be in NY or Philly circa 1960. The shelves are stocked with imported specialty items, the staff is friendly and solicitous, and the service is quick as can be despite the fact that they really are making most of the food to order. It's a bit crowded around their few dine-in tables, but that adds to the atmosphere, helping to make you feel like you're somewhere other than a strip mall in Chatsworth. The intense, wonderful aroma of the cooking food, baking bread and fresh-cut veggies get you itching to eat the moment you walk in. The first thing is the bread. They bake their own, and it's just wonderful. They actually have sandwich rolls with a crisp crust and pillowy center, something that is virtually impossible to find in Los Angeles. Imported meats and cheeses are artfully combined into a wide variety of sandwiches on the menu, or they'll make you whatever you want. Sandwiches are what most people come for at lunch, but they have a full menu of Italian dishes and scratch-made pizzas, all of which hit home in the best possible ways. San Carlo has become one of my repeat destinations for lunches in and dinners to go (they've got a freezer case that's packed with dishes you can store and heat), and if you haven't been to this old world, old school gem, you really need to put it at the top of your to-do list.
When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie that's San Carlo!!!! Hello, I am in heaven here. New York Italian deli/food at it's best my fellow yelpers. This is a MUST "go here" kinda place. Where do I begin...the minute you walk in the smell overtakes you...Family owned and run, super friendly and reasonably priced. You can order to go or sit at one of the small tables at the front of the deli to eat every morsel. Okay, I make a dynamite marinara...ask anyone who has had the chance to sit at my table, but this one is just as amazing. I could eat it as a soup or keep dipping my bread in it. My Eggplant parm/meatball wedge was delicious. I had to bring most of it home which I ate all by myself later that day...And no, I did not share it!!! My friend got spaghetti & meatballs, lasagna and garlic bread with extra marinara to eat during the week. Servings are generous here. The pizza looked delicious too. That's my next meal here. Inside is spotless, only a few tables to sit at. Definitely more of a to go place. Plenty of parking in the lot. My new favorite Italian spot...thank you Vicki!!!!
I am updating this review as today, for the first time, I tried the lasagna and the homemade tiramisu. I'm a creature of habit and it seems every time I try something new, I am disappointed. So, I asked the owner (Momma) if we could do a half portion of lasagna and half portion of my usual, capellini in marinara with meatballs. In no way am I suggesting you will be accommodated like I was - I've been going there for over twenty years. Ask at your own risk and do not bring my name into your request. Let me tell you, I have been sleeping on the lasagna! It was so good I forced myself to leave a little to bring home for later. It will not replace my original order but now I'm going to have to end up getting an order of each. I also have never had dessert here and today I decided to take home some tiramisu. Desserts are homemade by Momma and they're in the freezer by the door. The tiramisu comes in two sizes, I made the mistake of getting the smaller one. This may be some of the best tiramisu I've ever had. As you can see, I got the portion in a pint sized container. I could have easily eaten the whole thing in one sitting but we have to master control of the noms. As stated, it was frozen and when I got home it sat in the fridge for a few hours and was then ready to eat. Do not leave without taking some home with you, preferably the bigger portion.
